What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?
In simple terms, counselling sessions deal more with immediate issues such as bereavement or relationship breakdown. Psychotherapy deals with deeper, more long-term issues that are rooted in your past, such as a trauma, or, a serious mistreatment, where the effects are still evident in your life.
Counselling & Psychotherapy is for anybody and it can be of great support in times of crisis or change.
Is it confidential?
Discretion and confidentiality are critically important to my service. Your privacy is paramount and you can be assured of confidentiality. I strictly adhere to the IACP Code of Ethics and Practice.
However, there are a number of occasions when this cannot happen:
- If children, or other vulnerable members of society are in danger and this has not been reported.
- If you are a danger to yourself or others.
Limits of confidentiality also operate within the law. This means that I must report:
- Unreported child sex abuse where the abuser is still alive.
- Involvement in criminal activity.
How does it help?
Counselling & psychotherapy helps you to clarify what you want, address your needs, take responsibility, learn to live, love, take risks and ultimately to engage fully with life.
Regular therapy will help create greater insight for self-understanding, build self-acceptance and improve relationships with loved ones.
In most cases, it takes a number of sessions before the counselling starts to make a difference, and a regular commitment is required to make the best use of the therapy.
What can I expect?
My work will be led by your unique needs. Your needs and challenges are focused on exclusively in the session and I am available to offer you my complete presence, attunement and openness to any issues you want to bring. At all times you will be listened to without judgement as you explore what is important in your life. You can expect lots of time and space to understand where you are in your life, the impact of any problems and, in time, through understanding and insight, ways in which you can begin to move forward in a healthy way.
I am unreservedly here to stand beside you and to encourage (and challenge) you in this endeavour. You can expect that I will be committed to you in helping to make your life a happier and more fulfilling experience.
I offer morning, day or evening appointments (Monday to Friday)
In addition to one to one counselling, I also offer online counselling through Skype calls or email.
